The full-grain (sturdiest) leather uppers feature an updated look that includes several safety features. Your toes and metatarsal areas are guarded with a flexible, hinged construction to meet national industry standards for compression and impact. The steel toes used in these safety toe boots have been tested and meet or exceed ASTM F2413-11 I/75 C/75 standards. Along with the steel toes, the met-guard boots also meet or exceed the same standards for metatarsal safety. Being rated for Electrical Hazards, these Nautilus Hikers will also protect you if you accidentally brush against a live wire delivering up to 600 volts under dry conditions. And lastly, the electrical hazard rating for these steel toe boots additionally meets or exceeds the ASTM F2413-11 Section 5.5 requirements. (Of course, despite these injury-reducing features, we still recommend you watch where the heck you're going!)
The soles are non-marking, so you can enter more "civilized" areas of your workplace or on a service call without worrying about scuffing the floor. These metatarsal hiking boots are also oil and slip-resistant, so you won't make a fool of yourself at the same time by leaving the vertical unnecessarily. If you work in a foundry or around incredibly hot materials, you'll appreciate that these rubber soles can withstand temperatures over 3 1/2 times that of boiling water. These met guards are not a very good option for heavy welding or foundry conditions.
