A straight cut heel adds to the grippability you might need while a tough steel shank adds support on narrow surfaces like rungs or spikes.

I have a hard size foot to fit. These boots come in my size. So I tried them out. I'm Pleased. Two day break in. The Leather is treated, so they will be hard to polish. I'm a Security Officer. But All Leather. Well Made in the USA. Solid Brass hardware. And half the price of what I bought, (DANNER) before. It's a great buy shoppers. SW
