The lug soles offer firm footing. The soles may squeak a bit at first when I would walk around in my Danner boots, but the sound disappears quickly. After a full day's wear, I find the boots as comfortable as when I put them on. Care of the boots is easy...in most cases just wiping with a damp cloth. I also treat my boots with Leather Lotion made by Kiwi.
