The black, full grain leather uppers of these boots look great. But leather isn't just great looking, it protects your feet. Leather is abrasion resistant, water resistant and oil resistant. It ages well and takes decades to wear out.
A full-length cushion sock lining protects your skin from chaffing. It wicks moisture away from your feet and provides a layer of padding between you and the boots.

That means if the outsoles wear out, you can have them replaced quite easily. The rubber is just removed from the periphery of the welt, the stitching's taken out, and the soles are removed. Then new ones are resewn to the boots and the rubber welt is reattached. Simple!
