You can use these on high- or low-cut laced shoes, and they're made so they won't interfere with the flexing of your ankles. Comfortable to wear, but easy to put on, they meet national standards for impact protection. This means they can withstand a 75-pound weight dropped from a height of at least eighteen inches leaving at least one inch of clearance. The flared shape of the 20-gauge steel shield helps distribute the weight of a falling object, while the neoprene pad underneath helps absorb the shock itself.
