One of the things that makes these shoes special is the Ergolite "Wide Area" Toe Cap. The space age molded polymer used is combined with a unique ballistic mesh for additional strength. Translated, you get standard-rated toe protection that is thinner than traditional composites for 1/3 the weight of steel. In addition, it is static-free and doesn't transmit heat or cold or activate metal detectors. There's also a reinforced heel counter for added protection.
If you're outdoors around rain or mud, you'll appreciate that the rugged full-grain uppers have a water-resistant PU coating that still allows breathability. For further comfort, you've got an AthleTec cushioning in both the removable sockliner and the midsole. The fit is enhanced by padding in the tongue and collar.

I also like the composite since I have to pass through 2 sets of metal detectors to get into work.
The slip-on is a great help since I only need safety shoes on when responding to emergencies ... it's so much faster to just slip them on and run.
Wish there was a version with the ankle protection, too - the general workforce are required to have the ankle-high boot, so these shoes aren't an option. Any chance there's another version coming with hook & loop closure and ankle coverage???
