Dickies Jacket: Cotton Hooded Jacket 33212 OG

This jacket was a wonderful surprise! The broken twill cotton is soft and smooth right out of the box, yet looks like it can take a beating. The stitching is really amazing, very precise and reinforced everywhere. The hems and diamond lining are single stitch as tight and accurate as you'd find on a dress shirt. The seams are triple stitched in perfect rows. Pockets and stress points are reinforced. The fleece hood is deep and well shaped, pocketing the head, really warm and comfortable yet providing good vision. The jacket is not bulky and is surprisingly warm for its weight, handles freezing temps over just a T-shirt. When in the low 20's recently I slipped a light Polartech under it and was toasty just standing around. The smooth nylon lining lets it slide around so I never felt confined. The exterior pockets are deep and easy to get to. Things won't fall out. The inside lapel pocket is perfect for a phone, secure, quick to access even with gloves because of a generous pull tab. Is it perfect? No. My biggest criticism is the lack of articulated elbows, which doesn't make much sense for a work jacket. There's a lot of tug at the elbows when you bend your arms. Also, the brass zipper, which seems of high quality and accurately placed (again, the stitching is incredible) is a little rough. I'm hoping this will improve with use. The length is good--not so long that it binds when you squat, but long enough to keep out the cold and not flash a Nordge when you bend over. The jacket is not oversized. If you're between sizes, I'd go up rather than down, especially if you have long arms, because the sleeves will ride up and it will pull through the shoulders and elbows when you bend them. Based on materials and craftsmanship, this jacket can take a lot of abuse and for $45 shipped is a real bargain.
