Completely made of 100% Rainlight fabric, a Helly Hanson special blend, this beautiful dark blue jacket is completely wind- and water-proof. Rainlight is made of 100% nylon with a waterproof polyurethane coating. Nylon is an extremely abrasion-resistant, durable material that is stronger than cotton or wool, but much lighter in weight. Polyurethane is stronger than rubber, yet more durable. This construction makes the jacket very easy to wash and incredibly strong.
The seams have been fully taped for waterproofing, without sacrificing the light weight of this jacket. Cape venting on the back of the jacket lets in air (but not water) for comfortable, breathable wear.
Elastic drawcords at the hem and hood allow a snug (or loose) fit for whatever mood you're in, while 4" reflective piping on the front shoulders and back keeps you safe without distracting from the looks. Why wear a huge parka or unattractive slicker when you can have style even in the rain?
Snap pockets - two on the front, and one near the right shoulder - help you keep some of your essential equipment dry, too. I think I could have passed on the standard rain coat with the pants and just gone with this Helly Hansen coat. It’s lighter than the rain coat and it’s been perfect for any kind of storm I've been through so far. It looks pretty classy compared to a rain suit coat and the numerous vents and construction with mesh inside make it pretty comfortable. I also like the way the hood rolls up real tightly into the collar.
As with most coats of this type it'll be more comfortable if you wear a long sleeve shirt or the inside of the sleeves will stick to your arms a bit, but every type of rain coat I've ever bought has been like that. It also has a double zipper in front which takes a bit of getting used to it, but that’s a very minor complaint. All in all, it’s now the only coat I grab when it looks like rain, and sometimes even when it’s not!
