Excellent boots...
By: MattR
I've had my 25290's for years wearing them for day to day winter wear and a little light hiking now and then and have hardly made a dent in them. The leather, welt and sole are very tough and I love that the sole is both nailed and glued on. As noted by another reviewer, the only place up from these are Wesco and White's for about double the money. Add to this Chippewa's customer service and rebuilding options and they can't be beat.

Great Boots, the welt gives some contrast and character to the boots. Well made too. I used to buy Doc Martens in this style, I wish I would have found these years ago they blow the Docs away in style and quality for about $20.00 more. Great balance between ruggedness and comfort. I have probably sent back 7 pairs of boots online trying to find the right boots ranging anywhere from $300.00 to $100.00. I would rate these boots 2nd in quality only to my Wesco Harness Boots but they are half the price so the value is excellent. If you like 6" work boots do yourself a favor and pick up a pair of these. I ordered a 9.5EE and they fit me well. I would say they are true to size. Thank you working person store for having the perfect boot.

By: Jeff Swift
Great Value, High quality Boot. In my opinion second in quality only to my Wesco Boots. I believe they are a little more comfortable right out of the box than my Wesco's. I have tried Red Wings, Timberlands, Doc Martens, Vasque, Corcoran and many other boots and these are right at the top with the best of them. Seem to fit well also. Kind of Remind me of some 6" Docs I had but they are build much sturdier.

Quality lug-soled American made boots...
By: QuadK
This sturdy work boot by Chippewa is made in America from quality materials but sold at a great price. The Vibram lug sole is welted onto the boot, so you can get the boot re-soled whenever necessary. Also, the traction and stability of this boot is great, and you can use it in the mud or even in snow. Of course, I would recommend using a waterproofer for the leather upper prior to using these boots in such conditions. Size-wise, these boots run large, so size down half or a whole size down from what you would wear normally. The leather is a bit thick, so breaking these in may take about a week or more if you do not wear them regularly. After that, this boot becomes very comfortable to wear.

Running Large...
By: teampryor
Just like the logger but a more civil version. Since I was 18 and in the service I have worn 10 1/2 d boots so when these guys came in I was pretty excited to be back in USA made boots, keep in mind every other shoe I own is either 10 1/2 d or 44- 44.5 in size. Though I recently purchased some Patagonia tin sheds that were way to small at the same size. These boots look like tanks and I am sure built to last. I hope a size 10 d fits, any day now.

Sorry but my feet are not Chippewa feet...
By: teampryor
After a lot of waiting and finally going to a local shoe store to try on Chippewa boots it became apparent that Chippewa boots are for folks with a unique shaped foot. These boots appear to be very well made. But even if they did fit me the metal lacing hooks have a serrated back that you can feel through boots socks and I found very irritating. Well made but cant find the right fit, I have moved on to Danner boots.

Runs big but I love em...
By: testaandrew
I was really disappointed to find out that the pair of Chippewa boots that I wanted were discontinued but found these and thought they would make a fair substitute. They are exactly what I was looking for (though a little more expensive but really its for the extra quality of these engineer boots) they run large so I had to size down a whole size. This pair of Chippwea boots fit like a glove, though I haven't had them for very long they're quite comfortable and expect them to be even better broken in.

Another great boot...
By: cleve drakeford
This is my 8th pair of Chippewa boots and 25290 did not disappoint me feel great looks great and the craftsman is great. Worth the price. Make sure you get your correct size runs little big. I`m usually size 11 but with Chippewa go down 10.5 d or ee.

Great boots, just get the right fit!...
By: Ricfish
As mentioned by another reviewer, these boots are a cut above the 20080, which initially looks identical. The difference is the extra midsole leather layer, which creates a more sturdy feel underfoot, though they are a touch heavier than the 20080. I have both styles and am reserving these for casual wear for now, and maybe an occasional motorcycle ride. The other difference is that these don't have a removable insole, which is a bit surprising b/c removing it helps to air out the boots after wearing them. I don't suppose it's necessary though, and I still have a 1990's pair of Chippewas that didn't have them and I never had a problem. Just be sure to get the right fit, as Chippewa boots are a little oddly sized, and my size is not consistent even in the Chippewa brand, depending on the style. In this boot the best fit was a 10 EE. Ususally I wear a 10.5 D in their boots but that size felt a bit long and wide so I sized down again. My feet measure a true 11 D on a Brannock device so my sense is Chippewas run large. Get the right fit and you won't be disappointed in these boots.

Solid, comfortable, well made, and sharp....
By: ethebull
I use and need good boots for contracting work. These Chippewa's will do double duty, since they look ruggedly handsome for casual wear as well. Very happy with the fit (seem slightly roomier than "standard", whatever that is), materials, and attention to detail in their construction. I expect to enjoy them for a good many years. Not inexpensive, but a solid value.

Worth twice the price and may outlive me -- run large...
By: Christopher C.
Bought these boots two years ago on sale and am amazed at the quality. Rugged leather upper and heavy sole. I wear them when working in the yard and garden, when shoveling snow, and occasionally for hiking. Haven't made a dent in them. When I wipe them down and rub them with Obenauf's, they look like new.

As others have noted, they do run large. I normally wear 10.5 or 11 and prefer a wider fit. Based on the reviews, I went with the 10 in 2E. Perfect either with regular cotton or thick wool socks. For me, Redwings always run loose in the heel and eventually rub blisters; these didn't even need breaking in.

The only negative I can think of is that the tread is pretty deep and, in the spring, it really picks up our wet clay. If I don't scrape it out, it starts to feel like I've got a bowling ball strapped to each foot. That's a minor inconvenience. I've never seen a better made boot for less than twice the price, and I'm tempted to buy another pair to have on hand in case they stop making these, but to be honest, I think I'll break down long before they do.

If you want a rugged, American made boot at a more than fair price, these are worth a careful look. At this price, I've never found anything that comes close.

A Step Above...
By: Elbarto
If you were wondering why these boots cost a bit more than the ordinary Chippewa work boots, it's because they're a step above. They have milled (rather than stamped) hooks for the boot laces. There's also an extra layer of midsole that make the boots a bit stiffer and helps protect your feet on rough terrain. The leather is good quality, but the boots break in quickly. The fit is right on and the stitching is perfect. I can't speak too highly of these boots and you won't be sorry if you treat yourself to a pair.

i have not received these Chippewa Boots yet BUT......
By: Ben Lind
I already own a pair that I have been wearing for the last 17 or 18 years. They are the same model as the ones I've ordered, only in black. The new boots are on back order, but if they are of the same quality as my old ones, they will get 5 stars.

The Chippewa 25290 are very well made and very sturdy....
By: kindell griggs
I wanted a tough well made boot with a lug sole for traction. This boot will have to be
broken in because it is a tough boot. That does not mean this boot is not comfortable. It
has a cushioned insole that makes the foot feel good. This boot should last me a long time
because it is a tough, sturdy boot. I would definitely recommend this boot because you are getting your money's worth.

New to hiking / work boots...
By: Andrew Guitarte
This is my first time to try out a new all leather upper hiking boot that I can also use at work. I'm more than satisfied with my choice! I walked in trails, asphalt, concrete, carpet, wooden floors, etc. and the boot is comfortable after a break in period. I applied a leather moisturizer when I first used it out of the box. Then I recommend applying a couple of weeks after.
