petroleum based products weaken leather...
By: brianeugne
Finland's internationally famous Bear Grease Leather Dressing does work well to condition, soften, and waterproof leather. With that said, it is petroleum based and petroleum based conditioners weaken and break down the structure of leather. I would not use it on any of my higher quality work boots (google petroleum and leather to read more about the pro's and cons [mostly cons]) If you're looking for a product made from real bear grease, check out Bear Guard, which is made in Maine with two ingredients: bear grease and beeswax (although it's a whole separate argument about whether or not you should use animal fats on leather). I personally steer clear of both petroleum and animal fats and stick with Obenauf's LP or White's.

We've been using this for 30 years!!!...
By: shell
My dad has a can of bear grease that he bought in the early 70's, in Detroit, MI. He's been greasing up my ball glove every year, and his boots and things for 30 years with this one can. He says to me, "I'm finally almost out of bear grease, can you look online to see if they still make it, I never see it anywhere, I've been looking..." He read me what it said on the can. So I found it here and nowhere else, and we were thrilled to see they still make it!!! It's the best leather dressing ever. Just rub it in with a cloth, let it soak in awhile. It only takes a little & it lasts FOREVER. Yes, I would recommend this to anyone!!! My dad swears by it & so do I!

Vintage can of Bear Grease from Dad!...
By: Dan McCartney
Neat how so many of us were introduced to Finland's Bear Grease by our fathers. While going through some of Dad's things in their garage recently, now just a year since his death (he was 86), I came across his can of Bear Grease. Having never used it before, I decided to give it a try on a parched pair of old work boots. Wow, Dad was right again! It's a very old can with different graphics than the tins today with a cool pic of a bear on his hind legs. I will try to upload a photo of it if I can. Thanks again, Dan in Toledo.

garage sale hero...

I bought a new pair of Wolverine work boots and was looking for a treatment for them before winter. At a garage sale in Michigan i came across a 1/2 full can of Bear Grease for $2.00. What the heck, it looked like what i needed. The best 2 bucks i've ever spent! this stuff dose what it says it will, hands down. I was deer hunting this fall (2012) in crappy weather and had put another coating on before heading north. The result was dry, warm and toasty feet all day long! The result is a customer for life.

By: J. Halan
My father introduced me to Bear Grease years ago and gave me a tin for my leather coat. I use it on my Coach purses and I've never found anything better for leather. This stuff is THE BEST!! As stated, it will darken light colors, but it improves the condition and colors of most colors of leather. This is a "best buy." Thank you!!

Best Product Ever...
By: Len
I have been using Bear Grease to treat work boots, winter boots (tops of Sorels)
and baseball gloves since the early 60's. My dad had a can and I have gone through
a few my self. This is the best waterproofer and conditioner that you can buy. I'm glad
to know that it is still available.

Nothing Better In 30+ Years...
By: Mike G.
I've been using Bear Grease since 1980. Haven't found anything better. Picked a can up when I bought my first leather coat. One application a year. Handed it down to my son, Still looks like new. No cracks and leather still soft. Boots should have 2 coats. No need to look any further. Found the perfect leather dressing.

Nothing else comes close!...
By: Bill Meyers
Been looking for some more Bear Grease for a few years as my can I bought 40 Years ago (for $.85) is getting low. I've used it sparingly through the years on my boots. From the Sorels I bought at the same time (which I just finished putting another application on them) to using them on my combat boots in the wet and muddy maneuvers in Germany, Alaska and other places while serving. I've tried other products and nothing comes close to performing as well as Bear Grease does.

The best waterproofing leather protectant ever! I've got a 30-plus year old pair of Sorel boots to prove it.

By: Rick
I've not only used Bear Grease for over 30 years, I still wear a pair of boots which were coated the first time, 31 years ago! Reapplied lightly every year to keep them in great shape. First time applied, put them by a heater vent to warm up and soak in.

By: Eric Olson
I've been using Bear Grease for over 20 years. A friend from up north got me a tin of it for my hiking boots. I noticed a diference immediately in the boots I used them on. I still have and wear those same boots 20 plus years later. I was so impressed that I got some for my brothers to use on their leather boots, they can't believe how well it works either. I just got a new leather coat and one of the first things I did was Bear Grease it. I was really glad to find it online at the Working Person's Store. I purchased 3 cans one for me and one each for my brothers for X-Mas.

I have been using Bear Grease for over 20 years. I am a high school coach and we use it to waterproof and clean baseball and softball gloves. Nothing comes even close to it as far as quality goes. Remember to use your fingers though not a rag. The warmth helps rub it in.

My dad gave me my first can over...
By: Ron
My dad gave me my first can over 30 years ago for my hunting boots and I have used it ever since. No other product I have used compares to the waterproofing and conditioning properties of Beargrease. True, it will darken the color of the leather a little, but it will add years to the life of whatever you apply it to. It is simply the best product available for bikers and outdoorsmen.

By: Bob
This is the best conditioner and waterproffer you will find. I have used this product for over 20 years on all of my boots, chaps, and riding jackets. I have one coat that has logged over 200,000 miles in rain, sun, and cold with no noticable effects. If you ride, this is for you.

By: Steve Hall
This is the best leather weatherproofer I have ever used. It will protect boots in both very hot or very wet conditions. Two coats work better then attempting to use an excessive treatment.

Good For Work Boots...
By: Simon
Unlike a lot of people here, I had never heard of Bear Grease until I discovered it on Working Person's site. I decided to try it and compare it to the Mink Oil I've used in the past. They both seem to work in a similar manner, though the Bear Grease seems to make the leather feel better. I have some boots that have better quality leather than others, and on those, it makes the leather feel soft and supple, and seems to rejuvenate it. I have not done any research on whether petroleum-based products harm leather or not, but judging by what folks have written here, a lot of people have used this stuff for a lot of years without harming the leather in any significant way. I find this works best on "oiled leather" boots, such as Engineer boots or Timberland Pro Pit Boss boots, where the leather would not ordinarily take a good polish. On boots that are polishable, I prefer to use a good quality shoe polish, but this works well on work boots.

heat them up...
By: clifton e. pigg
Used Bear Grease for 20 years, can says to slowly heat them up, is correct. I put my boots in oven for 15 min. and when temp. reaches 200 degrees I take them out. Water proof much longer-done this process for last 10 years, my hunting boots are extremly soft and very water proof.

Auto seats renewes...
By: James
I have used several conditioners on the seats in my Ford F250 King Ranch. Bear grease is the first one that I have been satisfied with. This truck is a work truck. It sits in the dry to sun all day long. For the past three years, I have not had time to clean or condition the rawhide leather seats. The leather was getting so stiff, I was afraid it was going to crack. I found Bear Grease and wanted to try it because it being in a paste form. I have used other brands that were spray on, or towelettes, but the seats just soak these up and never could I get enough moisture in the seats. Bear Grease, as a paste, was easy for me to apply with hands and rub in to make an even color. I have applied it three times now to the seats. They not only look like the seats are new, but the leather is now supple again. I also used it on some old leather chairs in my house that I was going to throw out, but like the seats in my truck, these chairs now look remarkable and the leather feels supple again . Going to keep them. Very satisfied with the product! Get yours today!
