Merrell typically makes a good hiking shoe, but in this case, they definitely dropped the ball. I wore these shoes exclusively to walk my two dogs. No ruck, no gear. Just daily hour-long speed walks to get them tired out so they don't wreak havoc around the house. The shoes only lasted three months. The shoes are very stiff out of the box. And this is coming from someone who's worn almost nothing but combat boots or work boots for most of his adult life. No biggie. I actually prefer shoes that you have to break in because I feel like they mold to your feet, and you end up with a more of a custom fit. Unfortunately, the soles started to split from the upper before I had a chance to get comfortable in them. Get Merrell's Moab Ventilator instead.
