Almost perfect...

The Gripilin 553 Benchmade knife is a outstanding piece of engineering. The Axis lock has solved the problem of rapid deployment and rapid retrieval of the blade in an elegant and practical manner. The size is right for a large handed person and the pocket clip is strong yet discreet. The action is smooth , sure and predictable. The scales, however, do not rise to the level of excellence as the rest of the knife. To be fair, they would be just fine on any number of knives from other makers but rather than being a contributing factor in the Gripilion's over all remarkable design they are its one minor flaw. When you name a knife GRIP it had better be no less than GRIP. A common feeling plastic is a hard sell in this case no matter how many bumps they put on this Benchmade. This should be an easy fix for the folks at Benchmade. Nevertheless, what a life it would be if all things were made this well.
