if you camp, you need this jacket...

This Carhartt J162 001 waterproof jacket is really a winner in my book; it is rugged, breathable, and truly waterproof.
It really is a durable jacket. I've used it while chopping up firewood while its raining, scraped it across tree bark while looking for wood, and wrinkled it up stuffing it my bag, and the waterproof coating has not seemed to wear off one bit.
It has two sets of drawstrings, one attached to the hood and one by your waist, but helping to keep water out even more.
Most importantly is this jacket's breathability. There are plenty of jackets that will keep water off of you, but this is the only jacket I've found with it's warmth that will not make me sweat.

Nice Jacket...

The Carhartt jacket is a little on the big side when ordering. The closure flap with zipper over the pockets work nicely and keeps everything dry. The storm flap over the jacket zipper kept that sealed as well. The hood is generously sized and snaps to the collar. When not needed it can be detached and only stored in one of the large outer pockets. This is a jacket not a coat. It will keep you dry down to your pant's belt only (items in your pants pockets do get wet). The draw string along the bottom of the jacket can pull it closer and direct the dripping rain to your pant's waist area. A little exertion with the jacket on seems to overpower the "breathability" of the jacket.
