Good, But Not Quite Perfect...
By: Simon
I have suffered from plantar fasciitis for years and working on concrete warehouse floors all day puts any insole to the test. By now, I have tried most of the insoles on the market and, frankly, have found the majority of them useless. They might be okay for some extra cushioning if you have healthy feet, but if you have collapsed arches, as I do, from years of foot pounding on unyielding surfaces, most insoles on the market just don't do the job. Yes, I tried the ones you get at the drug store -- all of them -- including the big name brand one that now has a machine in store that you can use to pick out the right insoles. Crap. The gel ones. Even worse crap. The little plastic ones that you get at the special foot store that make you feel like you're walking on golf balls. The worst possible crap. Even the $300 ones that you get from the foot doctor, where you step into one of those foam boxes that supposedly results in an orthotic specially molded to your foot, which sorta works for a while, but then they fall apart after about 6 months and your insurance doesn't cover them. Are you ready to find out which ones work? Which ones are my benchmark for everything else I try, including these? Superfeet. For about $35, they work better than the $300 ones. Better than anything else on the market. Why Working Person doesn't carry these, I don't know, but if they did, I would always buy them here. They do, however, carry these, and for $18, I figured they'd be worth a try. I HAVE tried Sof Soles before, and among all the other insoles I have tried, with the sole (sorry) exception of Superfeet, they've been pretty decent. However, I have never seen them put out insoles SPECIFICALLY for plantar fasciitis. (That's flat feet, in plain English.) So, I gave them a go. You know what? They aren't bad at all. They work better in some boots than in others, and the only thing that really keeps them from giving Superfeet a run for their money is the fact that they are 3/4 length, instead of full length, like the Superfeet. I suspect they did this as a cost cutting move, so that these insoles would fit a wider variety of sizes, and also fit into shoes that do not have removable insoles. However, the penalty you pay for this is that they do not extend all the way under your toes, which then are on the bottom of the shoe, with no insole under them. This may not bother a lot of people, but it is a bit of a pain. In some work boots, it might not be a problem, but this insole would really be much better if they produced it as a trim-to-size full length insole. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars. It did provide excellent support for me in my Timberland Helix boots (available here, as well) over a period of several days on a warehouse floor, so that's certainly testimony to their effectiveness. I still think Superfeet are better, but these run a really close second.
