More of a question for those in the loop than a review, will be back when shoes arrive....
By: Dan Wesson
I just purchased the chippewa 29416's and some Obenaufs HD Spray Leather Preservative for use after using the cream. So, being a fan of mink oil and numerous other leather products, I'm learning that even mink oil isn't suggested by many. It seems it depends on whom you talk to. I know leather oils will and can wash/wear off, (why we need to replace them) and I know leather needs to breath, thus the need to condition it, but not block the pores. So, any comments before I use the spray would be appreciated. I will certainly be back to give a review on my American Made Winter Work Boots. Regards.

This stuff works!!! I work on a dairy farm and all the manure acids eat up the leathers. The Obenaufs repels the acids and water and even softens and restores damaged leather. It might be a little stinky but is the best stuff money can buy!

Wildland fire specialist for last 15 years….....
By: Adam Rogers
When this guys started they were selling this primarily for leather furniture conditioner, the first time I saw it was in a boot shop in Helena MT, since then I ALWAYS have some on stock.
Most professional wildland fire guys wear very high quality and price boots with an average range of around 500 dollars. We are hard on our boots and it is important to oil boots every other month or so, and its VERY important what you use to preserve your boots, Snow seal and other petroleum based oils are NOT good on your boots.
As far as I know this is the best leather conditioner on the market.
If you are having a hard time finding Obenaufs contact White’s boots, or Nicks boots, both in Spokane WA, these are the premiere hand crafted boot makers in the USA and will get you lined out.

By: Ian McCloud
Great stuff but hard to find. Can't find it at Walmart or target or the down to earth shoe or outdoor stores, glad i found it here. Snowseal, a beeswax compound, seems to work just as well from having used it for over 20 years of forest surveying in the Maine Woods. Pecards works as well, too.

Treat your boots...
By: Eric
This is the best thing to buy to make sure you're caring for your best boots. If you've spent money on quality boots, why not spend a little extra and get some quality care product for them. I like this stuff better than Sno Seal, though I use the Sno Seal on my cheaper footwear.

Amazing!...
By: hfra
Absolutely my favorite protectant / sealant for heavy duty leather goods. My usage isn't as rough as some other users, but this LP is perfect for moisturizing leather and keeping things waterproofed. And, as others have mentioned, this 4oz tub will last quite a while.

Very good stuff. Easy to apply, great water proofing, and a little goes a long way. The only problem is it finds its way into seams (very noticeable on black boots)and seems to get a little flaky in cold weather, but thats to be expected from a wax.

Typical skeptic at first, but well worth the test. I have been wearing boots for so many years, and wearing them out quite wastefully. Since trying for the best quality to preserve my gortex lined boots, I stand by the design of Obenauf's heavy duty Leather preservative. From experience the real challenge is having enough on hand. I bought the 4oz. container and it has lasted a good 6 months. Now I have trouble finding it stocked in stores. For better results and use I have found it helps to use on footwear in the afternoon so by the next morning the footwear is evenly sealed.

Protect your leather products with Obenauf's...
By: QuadK
Obenauf's LP is a beeswax based waterproofer for leather products. I highly recommend using this waterproofer on boots that are not pre-treated as it will greatly extend the life of them. As with most other leather treatment products, Obenauf's will darken the color of the leather, but the degree of darkening will vary between leather types and colors. For instance, a dark brown boot will not darken to the same degree as a tan boot. Don't be frightened as the leather will lose some of this darkness over time. You should apply this product every several months as needed (i.e. leather starts feeling dry and water gets absorbed). One coat is sufficient for leather to be used casually in mild to moderate wet/dry conditions, but I would recommend using two coats of Obenauf's for products that will be used in more harsh environments. Overall, this small $8 investment is well worth it to protect and prolong the longevity of your leather goods.

Absolutely excellent....
By: cp298120
I have some cheaper leather shoes that just seem to absorb water. I decided to get some leather protector for it so that they will last a little bit longer and this has worked wonderfully. Beware though, applying this dulls the boot quite a bit and gives it a tacky feel, so it would be unwise to use this on dress shoes/boots since they are meant to hold a shine. I am thinking about purchasing more of this at the moment for some other cheaper shoes but if you have higher quality leather then there is no need unless you are really soaking them in puddles or taking them into marshes.

One minor thing is that it darkens the color drastically.

Great Leather Protection...
By: TDD40
I was recommended this product, Obenfauf's LP, for a couple of pairs of boots I own. I purchased some and tried it out on a small spot of one boot. It was a simple enough process and I like that my boots are now protected from the snow better than before.
Pros: Keeps out a lot of water and other chemicals off of the leather. The water just beads on top of the shoe.
Cons: As others have said, it darkens the color, but this will slowly wear back over time (although it will never be quite as light in color)
The con in this case was actually a pro for me as I wanted to darken the boot to a different color.

Protect your boots...
By: rev_rend
Obenauf's leather protector was recommended to me as a high quality, beeswax based protectant and conditioner for leather shoes, specifically a new pair of chippewa engineer boots I had just bought. This stuff is a bit hard to find, but well worth it. After applying it and setting it in, it did a great job keeping water, chemicals, etc. out of the leather. I highly recommend using this on unprotected boots to extend the life of their leather.
Keep in mind that this will noticeably darken the leather of your boots if that's an issue to you.

LP = Lifeproof...

Work boots are expensive, so knowing how to take care of them is key to keeping your wallet safe. If you got a pair of Red Wing, Thorogood, or Wolverine, or any full grained, oiled leather boots. You absolutely need to invest in Obenauf's leather preservative. This stuff resists bacteria and mildew, and is a barrier against caustic chemicals, manure acid, salt, as well as being very water resistant. Unlike Sno-Seal, or mink oil, Obenauf's is all natural and won't clog the pores of the leather. Letting your feet breathe. Just a disclaimer, don't use this on suede, or rough out leather. Don't put it on your dress shoes either, because you won't be able to polish the shoes. It's meant for full grained, oiled leather.

Great care for leather...
By: CuriousApe
I bought this on a recommendation from a friend and have been using it on my winter boots. I was using Red Wing's boot conditioner before but had to reapply every week or two in the winter to keep them healthy. My boots are raw leather with no lining and Obenauf's has done an excellent job keeping them waterproof since I put it on. It is a very thick cream that forms a soft crust over the surface that soaks in after hitting it with a blow drier. It has a great Beeswax smell and I get a bonus hand moisturizing in the process.
After it's soaked in, the leather felt softer and thicker at the same time. It has also given my boots a deep reddish brown that I am really liking. I don't know what else to say other than this is the best leather conditioner I've used and don't plan on using anything else in the future.
