Benchmade Knives: Heckler & Koch Black Instigator Knife 14536 BP
The Benchmade Heckler & Koch 14536 BP Instigator Work Knife looks more like a ninja's weapon than a standard work tool, and that's one of the main aspects of its appeal. This black-on-black knife is almost too cool for work, but too good to display on the wall. Why not compromise by using it all the time? That way, it's always on display, and still living up to its purpose as a powerful cutting tool.
The modified Wharncliff blade style creates a sweeping curve on one side, a straight cutting edge on the other. The black blade, which is 3.28 inches long, is made with AUS-B stainless steel coated with BP-1. The BP (black pearl) scratch-resistant coating is made with Titanium carbo-nitride to add durability, perfect protection for the medium-carbon, high chromium Japanese steel that creates the blade. The blade hardness measures at 58-60 HRC on the hardness scale, so it will hold its edge even after repeated use, but it's not so brittle it can't be sharpened.
The skeletonized, full tang handle is also made with AUS-8 stainless steel. A lanyard hole allows you to attach this knife to work clothes and other objects. Overall, the knife measures only 7.38 inches in length and weighs a light 2.3 ounces to make it easy to use and easy to carry.
Molded Kydex and thermoplastic materials were used to create the plastic-like sheath, which has a tether so you can attach it to the knife if you like. You're not a ninja, but thankfully this Benchmade Heckler & Koch 14536 BP Instigator Knife may be used by professionals of any job description.

Solid neck knife...
This is a great knife to use as a no-nonsense compact knife (NECK) or as a fix blade carry. It arrived razor sharp, and I do mean RAZOR. It is advertised as a Benchmade H&K (which is true) but it is made in Taiwan. This doesn't matter to me but I know some purists might care. It has all of the quality you'd expect from Heckler&Koch and Benchmade.

Solid, but deadly....
Being a proud owner of an H&K MP5 and a USP Compact, I have an affinity for the H&K brand. That's why I perked up to find this Benchmade / H&K collaboration in the Christmas stocking this past holiday season, courtesy of my dad. The knife feels solid and balanced in your hand. There are no studs, screws, or moving parts anywhere on the knife. It's essentially a single, solid piece of steel. What makes this Benchmade knife unique, however, is also what makes it a bit of an unpractical knife as EDC. Unless you're comfortable carrying it as a concealed boot knife, then you're better off keeping it in a toolbox or a glass case as a collector's piece.
