There you are, suspended on the side of a steep mountain cliff, staring down into a deep ravine. As you watch tiny rock pieces of the cliff disappear into the abyss below, you remember, you've never done this before. No need to panic if you're climbing with a Petzl D14 Grigri Descender. Designed especially for beginners the Grigri is recommended by experienced climbers as a great security device.

The Grigri will self-lock if you start to fall, which means you don't have to perform any quick knot tricks to survive the mountain. This tiny life-saver helps you positions yourself on inclined surfaces and it's great for transitioning between short and long descents on your rope. In fact, you can control the rope by running it through the Grigri while varying your grip on the free end of the rope.

The Grigri handle can be used to unlock the rope. However, if the handle is released during an accidental descent (i.e. a free fall off the mountain), a spring-loaded device pinches the rope to brake your fall.

In addition to playing it safe as you go down the cliff, the Grigri also assists you in safe ascension. By simply adding a footloop and a handled rope clamp to your climbing rope, you can keep the Girgi in place and climb up instead of down. The Grigri is CE certified for safety and is made for rope diameters of 10 to 11 mn.
