This Work One Men's Safety Boot covers a lot of bases by protecting you not only at your toe cap, but also in the metatarsal area. By meeting national standards, you're assured that the force of a 50 pound weight (think framework or freight) dropped from a height of eighteen inches above your foot will leave a minimum of about half an inch clearance above your toes and an inch above your metatarsal area so your bones don't get pulverized and you don't get a tour of the Emergency Room. Don't forget that this metatarsal guard is internal, so the boot looks better, and the guard is less likely to shift or get stuck in a small space.
Also rated for Electrical Hazard, these I-Met I702's will protect you against open circuits up to 600 volts under dry conditions. The special Kevlar-impregnated soles are made to resist heat also, so if you're around welding or foundry work, you're less likely to do your spontaneous hotfoot dance.
