Matterhorn Boots: Waterproof Steel Toe Chainsaw Boots 12277

Whether you're a First Responder at a tragic disaster site or a logger doing your Paul Bunyan thing, you'll appreciate the protection (and comfort) provided by these Matterhorn 12277 Chainsaw Boots. We can count at least six degrees of protection:

1) The biggie, of course, giving this boot its name, is provided by seven layers of Kevlar for cut-resistant saw jamming. Kevlar is flame-resistant (uh-oh, another protection slipped in there for free), and is 5 times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis.

2) The stainless steel bottom plate is not for sneaky second helpings at the buffet, but meets national standards for puncture resistance. This means you could step on a rusty nail and it wouldn't pierce through to your foot if you weigh 270 pounds or less.

3) The toe cap on this Matterhorn 12277 extravaganza also meets national ASTM standards for impact resistance, so a piece of lumber or concrete dropping on your foot doesn't mean certain injury.

4) The steel toe cap also provides resistance to compression, so your toes are protected from up to 2500 pounds of pressure. Crazed forklift drivers become less of a hazard.

The Goodyear Welt Construction and Vibram Kletterlift sole combine to protect you from falls. This type of construction give the best kind of lateral stability because the sole is slightly larger than the boot. The Vibram sole's center star lug pattern and perimeter lugs deliver a great all-around combination of traction and stability.

5) Rain and its consequence will not slow you down due to the water-resistant 10-inch full-grain uppers and the Gore-Tex bootie. This lining guarantees no water will get in to make you uncomfortable.

6) Sweaty, clammy feet are warded off by the abrasion-resistant Cambrelle lining that works like a blotter-it can absorb 350% of its weight in water without feeling damp!

A "Scuffy High Abrasion Tip" (hey, we didn't make up the name) helps prolong the life of these boots, a leather collar minimizes irritation on your calf (along with the possibility of debris falling into you boot), and a removable midsole helps avoid uncomfortable foot shock as you jump down from elevated areas.

If you've been following along, you may realize there are actually more than six types of protection in these Matterhorn 12277 Waterproof Steel Toe Chainsaw Boots. However, those will not be on the final exam The final test is really up to you. What do you want on your feet when you're in a hazardous environment? We're betting you've found the answer right here.

Best boots for the money...
Like others, I did a lot of online and word-of-mouth research before making such an important purchase. So I give this review kind of tongue in cheek, because these boots are everything they are supposed to be, except they are uncomfortable for me! I have never worn insulated boots before and simply cannot deal with the heat and additional padding, especially in the tongue. Most guys wear lined boots, I know, but it's something you either like or don't and I'm the latter for sure. Otherwise, these are American made, bullet-proof work boots that can be worn through the worst of conditions (or best of) 'comfortably'.

Comfort and safety combined...
From the first time they were laced on to now a year later they feel fabulous on my feet. No break in necessary and true to size. Prevented at least one major stab injury and likely many small ones. Still water tight and they clean up and polish to near military standards. No need to buy another as they will last forever!

About the best boot on the market - not just for logging/wood work. Comfortable out of the box despite weight. Well padded so they fit snugly without stricture of ankle toes or foot in general. Bone dry when you step into and remain in water almost to the top of the boot. And - not the least of all - they look great! Keepers for sure. J

Versatile all around boot...
Great fit from the get go, despite weight and apparent stiffness surprisingly easy to walk hike or climb in. Don't do a lot of chainsawing, but pretty much all else, including 15 - 20 mile hikes in rough terrain, and at end of day have no particular need to take them off, they are that comfortable. Feet always warm dry and cozily protected. Eminently recommendable!

I own a tree service and have 17...
I own a tree service and have 17 years experience in the tree. These were the most uncomfortable work boots I have ever broken in. It may be the kevlar lining that makes the boot so stiff, but it took literally two months before I could work without discomfort. On the plus side, these will last as long as you want to wear them. The pair I bought two years ago still work just fine. They have a hole with the kevlar coming out about the size of a dime on one outside corner and the soles are pretty smooth but if I wanted to wear them for another season I could get away with it. When I buy another pair, it will be a different brand. I don't like the way the heels flatten you out when you walk. It is hard to stride forward and the ankles are not very flexible. If you want a pair of boots that will last years buy a pair. I guess I got my money's worth, but I can only give 3 stars because of the fit. If they had worn out sooner it would have been 2.
