Damn Good Boots!...
By: Jeff Clark, Architect
Finally ... the Thorogood 814-4233 roofer is a boot design that honors the work boot above the wanna-be athletic or hiking shoe aesthetic and celebrates the practical elegance, comfort and durability of a work boot. I wear these to office, to client meetings, on project sights ... everywhere. I am stopped frequently by complete strangers asking where I got my Thorogood Roofers Boot and I certainly let them know. Seems like I should get some redeemable bonus points towards my next purchase for these referrals ... except that my first pair will probably last more than a decade before I need to replace them so I’m not sure what good that would do me. Congrats to the designer.

Nice, Quality, American Made Shoes...
By: JG
These shoes are very nice for the price! Competitive with similar Danner, and better than Georga (slightly more money). Favorite part is Thorogood shoes are made in America!Danner has shifted some production to China, read lables carefully, Chinese Danners aren't like the old ones used to be.

Leather is of good quality and appropriate thickness for the weight of the boot, all brass hardware appears to be good quality.

They do run a bit on the large size so use caution when ordering. They also include a nifty gel insole that is removeable/replaceable. Not a ton of arch support but the removable insole allows me to use my Superfeet insoles instead for more arch.

They are a nice shoe when I don't need the support or want the weight of my Nick's logging boots.

Have owned and worn for a couple months now and have no regrets!

My new favorite boots...
By: Jason
I am a bit of a shoe whore and have owned many high end boots, Red Wings, Timberlands, etc. I needed a new pair of boots and wanted something a little different. I found these and loved the l style, the roofer sole and the fact that they were US made. When they arrived I was blown away, they had the construction and material quality of boots costing 2-3 times as much.

These are on the heavy side and run big by at least a half size. Other than that, these are tough, pretty and worth every penny. I will be buying Thorogood boots again, but these may never ware out.

Goofy but practical....
Reviewing and explaining the Thorogood lace to toe roofer boot. I'm a contractor, and it seems that whenever I get a roofer for the job, nine out of ten times they're wearing one of these funny clown shoe looking boots. But there's a practical reason for the weird ankle-to-toe lacing. If you've ever walked around on a slanted roof in a pair of regular shoes you'll feel your feet slide around in your shoe. It's uncomfortable and above all, dangerous. Because the lacing goes all way down to the toe on these boots, the tension is distributed more evenly than on a pair of conventional boots. And the leather is tough, and double layered so it doesn't scratch up easily against the shingles. I know a lot of painters, and carpenters, and even insurance adjustors that swear by these boots. I got a pair even though I don't wear them on a regular basis. But you can bet I'll be rocking the clown shoes when the job involves me getting up to the roof.

Great boots...
By: Shaun in Ohio
Purchased the Thorogood boots about 4 months ago, I wear them all the time. Love that they are made here. I have worn all the different boots (Danner, Red Wing..etc.) and these are holding up very well. Better bang for your buck than Danner. A little stiff at first but all boots are like that, I'm buying a second pare.

Love that they are made in america but......
By: koulias
I'm really confused as to why they are labeled "roofer" boots. I purchased these to replace red wings I have. I was shocked that these were not slip resistant. Whether on a roof or walking thru a local hardware store I tend to slide a bit.
They are well constructed, comfortable, and easy to break in but not what I expected and will not wear on job sites anymore. Wear them for house hold projects now.

Great but note size...
By: Stephen
These boots are made with good materials and I feel that this style fits a particular market need that is otherwise overlooked. The service was great, so you can count on that. There is no lining which for me is a big plus. Many boots make up for poor construction and inferior leather by adding fabric liners. Ultimately the liners will wear, lose their initial comfy feeling, and wreak of sweat. Purely leather uppers however will form to your feet, provide better long term comfort, and not make your feet sweat. I wear a 9 in almost all boots (like Carolina, Timberland, and Olathe) and an 8.5 in red wing 875s. For this boot I needed an 8. I find that all leather uppers with no lining typically calls for a hLf size smaller or more. I prefer to have it initially snug so that as the boot is worn in it will form to your foot, providing better fit. I definitely recommend buying at least a half size down. Boot definitely needs some break in time but don't let that deter you. The quality is at least as good as more expensive boots.

Quality and Comfort...
By: Richard Freda
I'm often on my knees doing repairs and remodeling which wear the toes of my boots quickly. I purchased these boots thinking they would be more durable then previous brands. I was pleased with how comfortable they were when I first put them on with very little break-in time required. After a couple months I have minor scuffing on the toes, compared to previous boots which completely wore through the outer protected layer on the first day. These boots are commonly dragging on concrete surfaces while kneeling down. Double and triple stitching is of great quality. Quality leather upper is layered for durability yet very comfortable. Soles are low profile which minimizes dirt clogging and can be re-soled if the uppers hold up. I'm very pleased so far. Would recommend for construction work. Will buy again if the uppers last a year.

Outstanding quality and style!...
By: Ashwinthecatwin
I bought the black color of these boots and I had to buy a second pair immediately. I love them that much and they fit so well. Because of the boot style it can be either dressed up or dressed down. What style I' am always asked and where did I get them and what kind of boot are they. First, this style of cut was originally called the "Monkey Boot" and are made for roofers but us 80's teens in our punk style loved them. I was so happy to find this cut of style in such a awesome made leather boot. It doesn't get any better when it comes to the real leather on these boots! I have to admit over the last 2 years i have been on a boot buying binge and thus far the Thorogood boot ranks on my list the top boot I own. Most of my boots are in the $150.00 range. I want quality boots and you can't get it any better than these boots. Secondly, the style of this boot is not one you see every day so they stand out in a good way as style goes and comfortable too. Lastly, women are wearing higher heels even a man who is 6ft plus women now days tower over you but these boots will give you that extra lift as well.

Good value and made in USA...
By: Bob
Well made with good materials. Boots uppers were tanned in Wisconsin and made in Wisconsin according to the information in the boot box. Comfortable and worth the price. All I had to do was add my arch supports, and they fit perfect. Look forward to wearing at work for years to come.
